Why Should Small Businesses Use Twitter

Twitter is a source that leads to an audience size that cannot be ignored.  There are 645,750,000 registered Twitter users as of January 1, 2014.  That is over 600 million users that are known to check their tweets first thing in the morning and all throughout the day.  What small online business could not benefit from a potential captive audience of over 600 million people?

Twitter Is Popular

Besides, having your business on Twitter is a popular thing to do.  Industry giants like Dell, AT&T and Microsoft are doing it.  The owners of some local mom and pop stores are even doing it.  But most importantly, many consumers are doing it.

Know What the Consumer Is Thinking

If over 600 million consumers are tweeting you could be pretty sure that some of them are your targeted prospects.  As a small business owner it is imperative that you know what your targeted market is thinking.  Finding out what people are thinking is easy when you use Twitter.  People tweet their likes and dislikes.  They tweet when they are satisfied and when they are not very satisfied.  It is to the benefit of a small business owner to be able monitor tweets and find out what consumers are thinking.

Side With the Consumer

Finding out what consumers are thinking is not the only benefit that the small business owner would get from using Twitter.  The small business owner can also tweet its messages.  When businesses tweet their sales and new product developments they are not only “getting the word out” they are sending the message that they are standing on the side of the consumer with the acceptance of social media.

Paint an Image and Tweak

More than just getting their messages out, small businesses that tweet and actually interact with the consumer can use that opportunity to paint an image that is appealing to the consumer.  It gives the small business the chance to tweak its brand.

Network with Other Businesses

While the small business owner is interacting with consumers and tweaking their brand they also gets a chance to network.  While they are tweeting other business owners are also tweeting.  Small business owners that tweet are presented with the opportunity to talk to thousands of people that they otherwise would not have had the opportunity to talk with.  Contacts are often made on Twitter that lead to business deals and partnerships.

Engage the Consumer

Networking with other business owners is not the only benefit that the small business owner gets from interacting on Twitter.  The small business owner that interacts with the consumer engages them.  They can start conversations about industry issues and find out what consumers are saying about them as well as their competition.

Conclusion

Twitter gives the small business owner the opportunity to gain free access to millions of consumers.  It provides a medium that can be used to engage the consumer and find out what the consumer is thinking.  It is to the small business owner’s benefit to not stay out of the loop and become an active participant in Twitter.  One thing for sure is that their competition probably already has.
