What do you think about when you think about success? Do you think about monetary gains,
achievements, happiness, the perfect family life? Is
success something that you are working towards?
Is it something that you think that you have already accomplished? Is it something that you think you can grasp
in this lifetime?
What is Success to You?
If you Google “what is success” you will get the following definition: “the accomplishment of an aim or purpose,” “the attainment of popularity or profit,” and “a person or thing that achieves desired aims or attains prosperity.” The Google definitions of success are fine for textbook purposes. However, these definitions are vague and do very
little to define what success really means to each of us individually.
Constructing an outline of what success is can be done using
the blueprint of the above definitions but the details are of a personal nature
and have to be determined individually.
What success means to me may not be what success means to you. In other words, my aim or purpose might not
be what your aim or purpose is, and that’s okay.
Have You Put off What You Think Is Being Successful
Let’s agree on one thing, that there are many variations to success. One variation is when the meaning of success is determined for us by others. What others think you should wear. Who others think you should marry. What others think you should do for a
living. The list goes on. Another variation of the meaning of success, and
I have to admit this is my favorite variation, centers around you. It is determined by what you think you should
wear. Who you think you should
marry. What you think you should do for
a living. Etc…
I know what the generic definition
of success is but in order to feel truly successful, you have to make the
choice to not just accomplish any aim or purpose, but to accomplish your aim or
purpose.
Know What Succeeding Means to You
Take some time to decide what succeeding means to you. Write it down and study it. The act of writing it down moves your life
into the desired direction. Once you do
this you will automatically begin to feel
more successful.
Take the time out daily to review your goals. Purpose within yourself each day to work
towards your goals with the faith that you will reach them…To your success!
